We will be showing a small collection of pieces: vending machine, wool/leather sculpture with audio, a painting of Catie as multiple zombies, and a zombie movie server that will be distributing at least 60 zombie films, so bring your laptop or flash drives!

Celebrations that invite us to observe a historical occurrence are still strongly practiced in contemporary culture. Halloween, as celebrated is America, profoundly depicts the strongest features from gothic and horror literature, film, TV, and graphic arts. Among the repertoire of traditional characters, the zombie distinguishes itself for possessing the biology and behavior of a normal human being, yet lacks consciousness.

This exhibition uses the vernacular of the mythological zombie as a starting point to engage in ideas of death, mindlessness and symbolisms for the occult and inexplicable. The term zombie also intends to address issues referring to the mindless self in a social spectrum: leading and following; acts of automatism and fanatic behaviors.

A show about self-improvement through self-denial

While large-scale organs of protection and improvement, such as schools, hospitals, and prisons, enforce the social contract through a restriction of choice and a remote delegation of authority, personal or cultural techniques for redirecting and mastering libido, the inner primordial chaos we carry within, can be found in the options represented by salad, church, and exercise. The deep loyalty and repulsion aroused in modern hearts by these three everyday pursuits, and their heroic and perverse obsession with denying the desires of the body, is the starting point for the works in “Salad-Church-Exercise,” fantasies that are channeled into a polymorphous menagerie of audiovisual media.
